  • Installation and commissioning shall only be done by a properly qualified and skilled installer who has read and understood these Installation and User Instructions.
  • Make sure that the electrical installation and cable routing comply with all applicable national and local codes and regulations.
  • The installer is responsible for employing skilled and qualified personnel.

Unpacking the Solar Life

To unpack the Solar Life

  1. Open the packaging carefully to prevent damage to the product.
  2. Inspect the product for any signs of shipping damage.
  3. WARNING! Do not install a damaged product. Contact the supplier or manufacturer in case of damage.

  4. Place the components on a clean and soft surface in order to prevent scratches and/or other kinds of damage.
  5. Check the contents of the delivery to make sure it is complete.

Contents of the delivery:

The included service login password is a private, product-specific password. Keep it in a safe place. Do not store it inside the product, and do not lose it.

Determining the installation position

Before installing the Solar Life, determine the most suitable location for the installation. Make sure that the installation point:

  • Provides the minimum clearance distances for safe operation, maintenance access, and ventilation (See the image).
  • Is a flat, solid brick or concrete wall that is structurally sound to support the mounted product’s weight (or use the optional post to install the Solar Life).
  • Do not install the Solar Life on structures or surfaces that are not designed to support the product's weight, such as plasterboard walls, fences, or temporary fixtures.

  • Is easy to access and within reach of the electric vehicle, so that the charging cable is never under tension when connected.
  • Has no hidden cables or pipes inside the wall.
  • Is preferably shaded to prevent discolouration and charging de-rating.
  • Direct sunlight can cause early activation of temperature management measures (for example, de-rating).

  • Is not in a location where standing water or flooding can occur; if necessary, take additional precautions to prevent short-circuits.
  • Is away from flammable materials, ignition sources, corrosive atmospheres, chemical fumes, excessive dust and heat sources.
  • Is protected from impact or damage.
  • If required, install a guardrail or barrier where vehicles operate nearby.

Specifications of the power cable

  • Risk of cable fires, overheating or short-circuiting if cable cross-sections are too small. Calculate and choose the cable cross-section in compliance with local regulations.
  • Risk of injury and damage! The entire installation and cables shall be capable of continuously handling the maximum rated charging current at the input of the charging station. As an alternative, the maximum charging current can be lowered by the configuration of the charging station. In that case, the full installation and cables shall be capable of continuously handling this installer-specified maximum charging current. Only after validating and reinforcing the installation can the settings be changed upwards (up to the maximum rated charging current).
  • The Solar Life is compatible with wire diameters from 2.5 mm2 to 10 mm2 (Cu).

To determine the power cable specifications:

  • The installer shall make a competent assessment of the actual situation, power requirements and the building’s electrical installation to choose the correct cable size.
  • The cable cross section in combination with the length of the cable shall be able to withstand a short-circuit energy of, at a minimum, 75000A2S, for example 2.5 mm2 for copper wires.
  • The entire installation and cables shall be capable of continuously handling the maximum rated charging current at the input of the charging station.

The table shows the recommended power cable diameters. These are based on a copper cable with a maximum length of 50 m. Use this information as a guideline only.

Required short-circuit and earth fault protection

  DANGER

  • Risk of cable fires, overheating or short-circuiting! Make sure to follow the installation requirements for short-circuit protection and earth fault protection as indicated in the table.
  • To make sure the installation is compliant with EV-ready 1.x or higher specifications, the RCD must be of at least Type A, high immunity (type HPI, SI, HI, KV). Please refer to the supplier’s datasheets to select the right components.
  • Make sure the protective devices installed upstream of the connecting point are suitable for bidirectional charging.

Specific Solar Life models must be connected to the building's electrical installation through protective devices for short-circuit protection and/or earth-fault protection. See the table for the requirements.
