DEKRA has issued one of the first attestations of conformity (AOC) for Dutch Grid Code (Netcode elektriciteit) compliance to We Drive Solar. The company, which focuses on bi-directional charging solutions, received the attestation of conformity for its ISO 15118-20-compliant Vehicle-to-Grid charging stations. The presentation took place April 21 at We Drive Solar’s headquarters in Hengelo.
On this occasion, DEKRA Certification B.V. CEO & Managing Director Bram Holtus presented the framed compliance statement to Robin Berg, CEO of We Drive Solar.
The certificate was issued for the product tested by DEKRA: the bi-directional ISO 15118-20 V2G Solar City and Solar Life charging point from We Drive Solar. This solution enables bi-directional charging, where electric vehicles not only take energy, but can also feed it back to the grid.
“We Drive Solar is one of the first companies in the Netherlands with a charging point for which a conformity statement has been issued for V2G based on the Dutch Grid Code. This allows us to deploy electric cars on a large scale to store solar and wind energy for later use as well as to directly reduce grid congestion. The certification of our charge point is therefore an important step,” said Robin Berg, CEO of We Drive Solar.
He continues: “With our Solar City and Solar Life charging points, we turn any suitable electric car into a battery for a 100% sustainable and affordable energy system. From now on, anyone who purchases a Renault 5, Renault 4 or Alpine A290 can use our charge point to reduce energy bills while accelerating the energy transition. Soon this will be possible with all Renault electric models.”

Tested to applicable standards and grid codes
The conformity assessment was performed based on the applicable grid connection requirements. Compliance with the Dutch Grid Code on Electricity was assessed using the conformity assessment procedures defined in EN 50549-10 in combination with ISO 15118-20 for the communication aspects.
With this statement, DEKRA confirms that the tested charging solution meets the relevant technical requirements for connection to the electricity grid in the Netherlands. Moreover, the product is one of the first on the market to comply with AFIR Delegated Regulation (EU) 2025/656, including support for ISO 15118-20. This is ahead of the January 2027 deadline for secure charging and bi-directional energy transfer services.
Bram Holtus, CEO & Managing Director of DEKRA Certification B.V., explains, “The energy transition offers tremendous opportunities for e-mobility and innovative solutions such as bi-directional charging. At the same time, it is essential that these technologies comply with applicable standards and grid codes. This is how we ensure safety, reliability and broad deployability. As an independent certification partner, DEKRA helps companies take that step with confidence. In doing so, we accelerate innovation and together contribute to a future-proof energy infrastructure.”
“This specific declaration of conformity to We Drive Solar is an important step for the implementation of Vehicle to Grid. Indeed, it proves the concept that electric vehicles can support the grid.”
Cooperation focused on secure and future-proof energy infrastructure
This collaboration between DEKRA and We Drive Solar focuses on validating innovative charging infrastructure, with safety, reliability and compliance at its core. Bidirectional charging plays an important role in the energy transition, as electric vehicles can be deployed as flexible energy storage within the electricity system.
We Drive Solar develops and manufactures V2G charging solutions specifically designed for integration with local energy systems and the power grid, with the goal of more efficient use of sustainably generated energy.

Application in large-scale V2G project
We Drive Solar’s tested V2G charging stations are being used, among other things, in the Utrecht Energized project, Europe’s first large-scale Vehicle-to-Grid shared mobility project. In this project, MyWheels electric shared cars are used to store energy and feed it back into the grid, contributing to a more stable and sustainable energy system.
DEKRA is a leading global service provider in safety, security and reliability. In the field of e-mobility, it offers state-of-the-art testing facilities for compliance testing according to ISO 15118, netcode testing, safety and EMC for the innovative e-mobility sector.
