V2G Panel in Aachen: Real-World Lessons and the Road to Scale

On April 2, a panel of leading voices in bidirectional charging came together at Haus der Technik in Aachen to discuss where Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) stands today — and where it’s heading.

Robin Berg joined the panel on behalf of We Drive Solar, alongside experts from BMW Group, E.ON, and FfE. Together, they explored the technical realities of turning electric vehicles into flexible energy assets that can support homes, neighborhoods, and the broader grid.

Moderated by Marian Willuhn, the session offered a mix of hands-on insights, critical challenges, and open dialogue on what’s needed to move from pilot projects to mainstream adoption.

Panelists:

🔹 Robin Berg – We Drive Solar
🔹 Marco Piffaretti – Task 53 – Interoperability of Bidirectional Charging (INBID)
🔹 Jens Berger – BMW Group
🔹 Alexander Gaytandjiev – E.ON
🔹 Patrick Vollmuth – FfE
🔹 Markus Hackmann – P3

While the concept is simple — use EVs as mobile batteries — the implementation is anything but. Still, successful projects like the one in Utrecht prove it’s not only possible, but already happening.
